TN candidate declares Rs 1.76 lakh cr cash, Rs 4 lakh cr loan
Chennai, April 4 (IANS) Candidate for the by-election to the Perambur assembly seat in Tamil Nadu, J. Mohanraj of the Jebamani Janata party, has declared loan dues to the World Bank of Rs 4 lakh crore and cash in hand of Rs 1. 76 lakh crore.

Interestingly, the Election Commission has accepted Mohanraj's affidavit and has allotted him the 'Green Chilli' symbol.

"Filing a false affidavit is not a criminal offence. The Election Commission had changed the rules in 2014," Mohanraj, a retired police officer who has also worked in theCentral Bureau of Investigation (CBI), told IANS.

"With media focusing on my affidavit, Election Commission officials will feel like they have bitten an Andhra green chilli," he added.

He said the Rs 1.76 lakh crore figure in the affidavit as cash in hand is a reference to the alleged 2G spectrum allocation scam, and the Rs 4 lakh crore loan refers to the government's debt.

Mohanraj said the 2G scam was not properly investigated by the CBI, which observation was also made by the trial court judge who heard the case.

Sixty seven-year old, Mohanraj is the son of late Nellai R. Jebamani who was elected to the Tamil Nadu assembly from the Sattankulam constituency in 1977 as a Janata Party candidate.

Mohanraj also said the upcoming one will be his 13th election contest, and that he has unsuccessfully contested the Lok Sabha and Tamil Nadu assembly elections earlier.
