Power lines in Haridwar to go underground

Dehradun, March 7 (IANS) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Thursday launched a project to lay the power cables underground in the Kumbh area of Haridwar.

The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone for the project at a function held in the holy city of Haridwar.

The first such project is being implemented in Kashi city, the constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. "After Kashi, Haridwar will become the second city in India where the power lines will go underground," he said.

The project will be implemented under the integrated power development scheme (IPDS) at a cost of Rs 388 crore, state Power Secretary Radhika Jha said.

Power Department officials said efforts will be made to complete the project before the commencement of the Kumbh Mela to be held in Haridwar in 2021.
