On December 20, 2018, the C&IS division issued an order authorising 10 central agencies to monitor, intercept and decrypt all data contained in any computer system, under rules formulated in 2009, that received much flak online. While phone-tapping and surveillance requests from law enforcement agencies were handled until last year by a small division that operated under Internal Security-I (IS-I) division of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), in November 2017 the Centre created two new divisions to deal with radicalisation and cybersecurity.
