Dortmund's Sancho secures Bundesliga leader 2-1 win over SchalkeGelsenkirchen (Germany), Dec 9 (IANS) Borussia Dortmund's young talent Jadon Sancho secured a 2-1 away victory over Schalke in a Bundesliga event held at the VELTINS Arena.

Danish midfielder Thomas Delaney gave Dortmund an early lead, just seven minutes into the match on Saturday, off an assist from Germany's playmaker Marco Reus, reports Efe

After the intermission, Italian right-back Daniel Caligiuri successfully converted a penalty attempt to draw level in the 61st minute.

 

The young English winger Sancho, however, gave Dortmund the lead again, striking the 2-1 winner in the 74th minute.

With its 11th victory so far, Dortmund maintained its Bundesliga lead with 36 points, while Schalke is in the 13th spot with 14 points.

In other Bundesliga action on Saturday, defending champion Bayern Munich routed visiting FC Nurnberg 3-0 at Allianz Arena, to provisionally snatch standings' second spot with 27 points.

Polish superstar Robert Lewandowski struck the first goal for Bayern, making the most of an assist by German teammate Joshua Kimmich, giving the home side an early lead just nine minutes after the first whistle.

Lewandowski visited Nurnberg's net one more time in the 27th minute, securing a 2-0 lead for the Bavarians until the break.

In the second half, French star Franck Rib?ry netted the 3-0 goal in the 56th minute off an assist from German winger Serge Gnabry.

Nurnberg is in the 18th and third-to-last place with 11 points and might fall further if Hannover beats visiting Mainz Sunday.

Elsewhere in German soccer, Freiburg ended its bad result skid with a 3-0 home victory over RB Leipzig at Schwarzwald-Stadion, thanks to the goals scored by German striker Nils Petersen, his countryman forward Luca Waldschmidt and midfielder Mike Frantz in the 12th, 45th and 52nd minutes, respectively.

Freiburg, thus moved up to the 12th spot in the standings with 17 points, while Leipzig moved down to the fourth place with 25 points, pending Hertha Berlin vs Eintracht Frankfurt clash later in the day.

In addition, ninth-placed Wolfsburg played to a 2-2 home tie with sixth-placed Hoffenheim at Volkswagen Arena.

Algerian striker Ishak Belfodil opened the scoring for Hoffenheim just four minutes into the game, while his Bosnian teammate Ermin Bicakcic awarded Wolfsburg the 1-1 equalizer in the 28th minute on an own goal.

Just three minutes later, German forward Daniel Ginczek secured a 2-1 lead for Wolfsburg, which lasted until the break, while Croatian forward Andrej Kramaric netted Hoffenheim's 2-2 equalizer in the 71st minute.

Meanwhile, substitute Argentine striker Lucas Alario scored the 1-0 winner for Bayer Leverkusen over Augsburg in the 75th minute in the match held at BayArena.
