Former Odisha Minister Dolagobinda Pradhan passes awayBhubaneswar, Sep 17 (IANS) Noted freedom fighter and former Odisha Minister Dolagobinda Pradhan passed away at his residence in Bhubaneswar on Monday. He was 93.

Pradhan is survived by his wife, four sons and three daughters.

A follower of Mahatma Gandhi, he took part in the Quit India Movement in 1942 and got imprisoned by the then British government for 3 years and two months, said sources.

 

Born on June 7, 1929 in Dihasahi of Cuttack, Pradhan was elected to the Odisha Legislative Assembly from Cuttack Sadar constituency twice between 1980 and 1990.

He also served as the Urban Development Minister of the state from 1989 to 1990.

Several eminent personalities and many politicians cutting across party lines paid last respects to the departed soul. The members in the Odisha Assembly also condoled the demise of the former minister.

"His contribution to the freedom struggle and to our social life will be remembered forever. He was a true Gandhian and had dedicated his life to uphold Gandhian values in words and actions," said Odisha Governor Ganeshi Lal.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik condoled the death of Pradhan and conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved family.

Union Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also expressed his condolence over the sad demise of the freedom fighter.
