Bathinda youth gets special youth state award

Chandigarh, Aug 16 (IANS) The outstanding achievements of Yashveer Goyal, a hearing and speech impaired youth of Bathinda city, in technology, sports and other fields have fetched him a state award from the Punjab government.

Nineteen-year-old Yashveer is among the 17 persons selected for state awards on the occasion of the Independence Day.

 

Chief Minister Amarinder Singh gave a certificate of honour, a gold medal, a shawl and a Rs 11,000 cheque to Goyal at a function yesterday.

A citation of his outstanding achievements was also read out while he was being honoured by the Chief Minister.

His achievements are in the fields of information technology, sports (badminton and chess), photography, general education, cultural activities, stamp and coins collection and computer education by competing with special category youths and normal category youths at national and international levels.

He is hearing and speech impaired since his birth and also suffered from congenital deformities. His deafness is severe.

Yashveer has to his credit the achievement award in the Global Information Technology (IT) Challenge for Youths, held in Hanoi in Vietnam) in 2017 and the gold and the overall trophy in National IT Championship for Youths with Disability held at the National Institute of Technology in Kurukshetra by the government of India last year.

He is only one from Punjab who has won these honours.

This year in sports, Yashveer has also been making his presence felt as he has won two medals (one silver and one bronze) in the Punjab State Deaf Badminton Championship and a bronze in the Punjab State Cities Team Chess Championship.

He also participated in the National Cities Team Chess Championship held in Siliguri in West Bengal this month.

In general education, he managed to get two gold in fifth class and 12th class for scoring high marks by competing with normal students.
