Will work long hours to declare results in time: DUTANew Delhi, June 20 (IANS) Back at work after its 40-day long boycott, the Delhi University teachers have mounds of exam sheets to clear but they say they will not allow any delay in the declaration of results and no students will be forced to face the situation of a "zero year".

On Monday, the varsity teachers broke their strike which they had embarked upon demanding the repeal of a University Grants Commission notice which stipulated for a mode of recruitment of teachers on the basis of department and not university as a unit and the confirmation of ad hoc teachers as permanent ones.

Although the deadlock ended after several appeals to the teachers to come to back to work in the name of students' future, the teachers in their turn got no assurance from the university on any of their demands.

"We will increase the number of teachers and the evaluation centres. We are sure that we will be able to make up for the lost time and declare the results in time," DUTA President Rajib Ray told IANS.

Another demand of teachers was filling of long-pending vacancies in the university which are reckoned to be somewhere around 4,000. One of the reasons of the pending vacancies is said to be the political tussle between the varsity and the Delhi government.

There are 28 colleges which are partially or fully run by the Delhi government out of which many colleges are bereft of a full-fledged governing body.

The source of conflict is said to be in the lack of consensus over the nominated members between the varsity administration and the Aap Aadmi Party-run Delhi government.
