Rohini to get two bus depotsNew Delhi, June 1 (IANS) The Delhi government will open two bus depots at Rohini Sector-37 with a capacity of 150 buses each, to add to the exisitng 45-odd facilties in the city.

The depots will be built at an estimated cost of Rs 43.76 crore by the Public Works Department, an official told IANS.

The project has been approved by the government's Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) during a meeting chaired by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Manish Sisodia, which laid down a nine-month period for their construction.

 

The Delhi government had constructed eight depots in the city in the last three years, with an aim to strengthen the public transport system.

During the budget, the government had said that due to unavailability of adequate space for bus depots the augmentation of the bus fleet was a challenge.

The Delhi Transport Corpoation operates what is claimed to be the world's largest fleet of some 4,000 green buses that run on compressed natural gas.
