Incheon United coach calls it quits after poor performance

Incheon United coach calls it quits after poor performanceSeoul, May 11 (IANS) The head coach of the South Korean football club Incheon United has decided to step down following his team's poor performance this season.

Incheon said on Friday that it had decided to accept head coach Lee Ki-hyung's resignation and terminated his contract with mutual consent, reports Yonhap news agency.

Lee joined Incheon in 2015 as chief assistant coach, then became caretaker of the K League 1 side in August 2016 following his predecessor Kim Do-hoon's departure.

Lee was promoted to head coach at the end of the 2016 season after he helped Incheon remain in the first division by collecting six wins, three draws and one loss in their last 10 matches.

Lee, a former South Korean national team right back, however, failed to produce positive results after that. Incheon finished ninth last year and for this season, the club has struggled to get out of the relegation zone.

Incheon are currently 11th in the 12-team league with one win, four draws and seven losses. Incheon haven't collected a victory since March 10 when they had a surprising win over the reigning league champions, Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors

Incheon said their assistant coaches will guide the players in the upcoming K League 1 match against Sangju Sangmu on Sunday. The club added it will try to hire a new head coach as soon as possible.
