Mercury on rise in Delhi, Tuesday warmest February day

New Delhi, Feb 20 (IANS) With the maximum temperature at 29 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season's average, making Tuesday the warmest February day for Delhi, the IMD said that both maximum and minimum temperatures are set to rise over the next two days at least.

The maximum on Wednesday is likely to hover around 31 degrees Celsius, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The near respite, according to weather analysts, is likely on February 23 and 24, as Delhi and neighbouring region may see rain showers and thunderstorm then.

The national capital on Tuesday saw a minimum temperature of 10.1 degree Celsius, a notch below the season's average.

"The temperature is expected to rise further for next two to three days," an IMD official told IANS.

Experts attribute rise in temperature in Delhi to the cloud cover over northern Rajasthan and Delhi.

"Both maximum and minimum temperature is set to rise over few more days as there is cloudy sky in the region. Respite is likely on February 23 and 24, due to possibility of rains, but after that mercury will rise again," said Mahesh Palwat, director private weather forecasting agency Skymet.

The hunidity oscillated between 35 and 95 per cent respectively.

On Monday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 26.9 degree Celsius while the minimum was recorded at 10 degrees.
