Robbers break into UP bank's locker room, steal money, jewelleryKanpur, Feb 19 (IANS) Robbers decamped with cash and jewelry worth crores of rupees after breaking into locker in a bank here early of Monday, police said.

The robbers broke 32 lockers in the strong room of the Union Bank branch in Pashupati Nagar of Naubasta, said a police official, adding police was on lookout for the criminals who were still at large.

Account holders Umakant and transporter Ashutosh Gupta told police that they had some cash and jewellery worth Rs one crore in their lockers. Many other bank customers have also lodged similar complaints. The UP Police's Special Task Force (STF) has been assigned the case and a team has begun probe into the crime.

 

A forensic team has taken finger prints and other evidence from the bank. Police officials privy to the probe informed that the robbers broke into the bank from the wall in an adjacent vacant plot.

Bank manager Pranav Srivastava told police that the CCTVs and the DVR have been damaged and that the lockers were broken with the help of a gas cutter.

Bank customers staged a demonstration outside the bank and demanded that their money and jewellery be recovered at the earliest. The Kanpur SSP has suspended Naubasta SHO Akhilesh Jaiswal.
