Morocco begins ‘Cold-Winter Operation’ to help poor

Morocco begins 'Cold-Winter Operation' to help poorRabat, Jan 6 (IANS/MAP) Morocco has started a humanitarian initiative as part of the 2018 Cold-Winter operation to help poor people living in the mountainous regions by providing them the basic necessities.

The Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity was mobilising resources for rural populations exposed to the cold spell and the heavy snowfall in the provinces of the Grand and Middle Atlas, according to an official statement on Saturday.

The annual humanitarian operation is generally initiated by the Foundation when climatic conditions, particularly the significant snowfall, causes the isolation of population in the mountainous regions and their access to food resources.

The Foundation's teams were mobilized to provide a kit of food including flour, rice, sugar, tea, salt, oil and milk as well as blankets to many poor families.

For this first phase of the 2018 Cold-Winter operation, the Foundation's teams will operate in four provinces, namely Khenifra, Midelt, Azilal and Al Haouz.
