CBI books ED ex-Deputy Director in disproportionate assets caseNew Delhi/Chandigarh, Nov 28 (IANS) The CBI on Tuesday said it has registered a case against a former Deputy Director of the Enforcement Directorate on the charge of amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.

Gurnam Singh, who was posted as Deputy Director in Chandigarh, was registered on Monday under the Prevention of Corruption Act for allegedly amassing wealth amounting to Rs 1.5 crore between 2012-17 through corrupt means by abusing his official position, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) official told IANS on condition of anonymity.

Singh was posted as ED Deputy Director between March 2012 and January 31, 2017.

 

The CBI said Singh, before March 2012, held assets of Rs 12.8 lakh only but acquired a plot of land in S.A.S. Nagar adjoining Chandigarh in 2014 worth Rs 95 lakh. "He also acquired a shop worth RS 76 lakh in S.A.S. Nagar in his wife Dalip Kaur's name in January 2016 and a plot worth Rs 76 lakh in ECO city in his son Sukhmanjeet Singh's name in October 2013." Singh also allegedly made fixed deposits in his name.

During the said period, his income from known sources was only Rs 41 lakh, the CBI said.
