China to provide emergency aid to typhoon-hit VietnamBeijing, Nov 10 (IANS) China has offered to provide emergency aid to Vietnam after typhoon Damrey wreaked huge damage in the country, the Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said on Friday.

The Chinese government has initiated an emergency humanitarian aid mechanism and will provide necessary materials as soon as possible, the MOC told Xinhua news agency.

Typhoon Damrey made landfall in Vietnam on November 4, triggering mudslides and flooding.

 

It has claimed 106 lives, left 25 people missing and injured 197 others, Vietnam's Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control said.

Over 2,000 houses were destroyed and nearly 120,000 others damaged, 1,231 cargo and fishing ships and boats sunk, and more than 43,300 poultry and cattle killed in the natural disaster.

The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit is being held in the Vietnamese city of Da Nang on November 10-11.
