Applications invited from students for community awardNew Delhi, Oct 31 (IANS) The 2018 "Pramerica Spirit of Community Awards (SOCA)" were announced open for entries on Tuesday for school children studying in Class 6 to 12, its organiser DHFL Pramerica Life Insurance (DPLI) said.

Apart from being a school student, the applicant needs to be involved in "consistent volunteer community service" to be an eligible candidate.

"This programme recognises students who have demonstrated commitment and spirit to make a difference and Saina (Nehwal) strongly personifies these qualities. Her grit and determination to rise up to challenges and her passion to make India proud makes her an excellent role model for the younger generation," Anoop Pabby, Managing Director and CEO, DHLI, said in a statement.

 

Saina Nehwal, brand ambassador of the programme and Badminton champion, said she strongly believed that "community service should be an integral part of education".

"I hope that through my association with SOCA, I can help play a role in making this possible," she said in the statement.

The top winner in the individual category will be awarded a gold medal, a cash prize of Rs 50,000 and a round trip to Washington D.C.

The application forms can be filled online or downloaded from www.spiritofcommunityindia.com. The last date for submission of completed and certified applications is December 31, 2017.
