Ranchi, Oct 12 (IANS) Suspected poachers shot dead an elephant in Jharkhand's Betla National Park on Thursday, police said.
The bullet-riddled body of the elephant was spotted by a team of forest guards in the core area of park, a part of the Palamu Tiger Reserve, officials of the Forest Department said.
The officials suspect that the elephant was killed for its tusk and said armed poachers might have sneaked into the park with the support of some insiders. A probe has been ordered.
