Governor Vohra discusses Kashmir security with Rajnath

New Delhi, Oct 11 (IANS) Jammu and Kashmir Governor N.N. Vohra on Wednesday met union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to discuss the political and security situation in the state.

Vohra also briefed the minister of the situation on the Line of Control (LoC) following the escalation in cross-border firing from Pakistan, sources said.

"Governor of Jammu and Kashmir N.N. Vohra meeting the Home Minister in New Delhi," the ministry said in a tweet, sharing a photograph of the two.

The Home Ministry last week set up a study group headed by Special Secretary Rina Mitra to examine the problems due to cross-border shelling faced by the people living near the International Border and the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir.

Vohra and Rajnath Singh also discussed the constitution of the group and its terms of reference, the sources said.

Governor of Tamil Nadu Banwari Lal Purohit and Lieutenant Governor of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Admiral (retd.) D.K. Joshi also called on the Home Minister separately.

The meetings came a day ahead of a two-day conference of governors beginning on Friday to be presided over by President Ram Nath Kovind.

The conference is the 48th to be held at Rashtrapati Bhavan and the first to be presided over by Kovind.
