Egypt's Sisi in historic visit to VietnamCairo, Sep 6 (IANS/AKI) Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on Wednesday began a two-day visit to Vietnam - the first ever made by an Egyptian head of state - aimed at boosting bilateral ties.

Vietnamese President Tran Dai Quang met Sisi on his arrival in Hanoi, and the Egyptian leader was expected to meet the Vietnamese Communist Party's Secretary General Nguyen Phu Trong during his trip, according to Egyptian press reports.

Egypt and Vietnam on Wednesday reportedly signed nine memorandums of understanding, including on port and maritime sectors, state-run daily Al-Ahram Online said, citing presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef.

 

Sisi stressed on Egypt's eagerness strengthen cooperation with Vietnam in different fields, contributing to the historical ties between the two countries, al-Ahram reported.

Egypt and Vietnam established diplomatic relations in 1963 and the value of bilateral trade reached $350 million last year.

Earlier this week, Sisi attended the BRICS summit in China, where he met various world leaders.
