Ghaziabad, Aug 17 (IANS) Two unidentified bike-borne criminals shot dead a young woman here on Thursday, police said.
The incident occurred at 1 p.m. near Karan Gate police post when Riya Chakraworty, 26, was going to her home at Kanha Complex on her two-wheeler.
When she reached the Wazirabad Road near the Hindon Air Force Station, the assailants came close to her and fired two shots from close range, piercing her chest and abdomen. The killers sped away.
The woman was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Chakraworty, who had migrated from Rudrapur in Uttarakhand, had married a dog breeder, Jag Pravesh Panwar, in 2011 in Delhi and they started living in Sahibabad.
A girl child was born to them in March 2012. According to police, her husband committed suicide in May 2015. Her daughter was being cared by her father-in-law and she lived alone.
An aide to Senior Superintendent of Police H.N. Singh said they had no leads to the murder as of now "but we are hopeful of working out the case".
