India, Turkmenistan discuss Ashgabat Agreement

New Delhi, Aug 14 (IANS) Indian Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday discussed with Turkmenistan Deputy Prime Minister Rashid Meredov the possibility of India joining the Ashgabat Agreement that envisages better connectivity between Central Asia and the Persian Gulf.

The two leaders also discussed ways to expand and deepen bilateral cooperation between the two countries, officials here said.

 

The Ashgabat transport agreement between Oman, Iran, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan seeks to create an international transport and transit corridor to facilitate transport of goods between Central Asia and the Persian Gulf.

Meredov, who is also the Foreign Minister of the Central Asian country, is on a three-day visit to India on invitation of his External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
