Panaji, Aug 8 (IANS) Goan students should be exposed to the lives and deeds of a stalwart like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and also Sati Savitri, state Governor Mridula Sinha said on Tuesday.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the 'Digital Exhibition Uniting India: Sardar Patel' at the Goa Science Centre here, Sinha said students of government schools in the state will soon be given a diary which would include an easily understandable to-do list, along with information on the 'Swachh Bharat' mission and moral education.
"Not just (Sardar) Patel, but it is important to teach the life stories about those who have contributed to the making of India in their time. I also believe that characters like Sati Savitri should also be (taught)," Sinha said.
"People know of Savitri as a woman who was loyal to her husband. But look at the poise and wisdom with which she argued with Yamraj. Our boys and girls should also be taught about her."
Sinha also said that India would not have been what it is today, without the efforts of the country's first Home Minister Patel, who was also referred to as the "Iron man".
