Heavy rain continues, rivers in spate in Himachal

Shimla, Aug 7 (IANS) The hills of Himachal Pradesh continued to experience moderate to heavy rain on Monday and all major rivers and their tributaries were in spate, officials said.

There could be heavy spells of rainfall at some places in the next few days, the Met office warned.

 

While Dehra Gopipur town in Kangra district recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 174 mm till 8.30 a.m., it was 125 mm in Dharamsala and 28.8 mm in Palampur.

The state capital recorded just mild spells of rainfall.

There was also a flood-like situation in the picturesque Lahaul Valley in Lahaul-Spiti district due to heavy rainfall.

A government spokesperson said the Satluj, Beas and Yamuna rivers and their tributaries were in spate in Kinnaur, Shimla, Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur and Sirmaur districts.

These rivers enter Punjab and Haryana.

There were reports of link road closure in the interiors of Shimla, Sirmaur, Mandi, Kangra and Kullu districts, hampering the movement of traffic.
