Kolkata, Aug 2 (IANS) The flood situation in West Bengal is improving, but the toll due to the deluge in the state has risen to 50, as four more deaths were reported, a state government official said on Wednesday.
"Four deaths have been reported in 24 hours. The death toll has now reached 50," said the Disaster Management Department official.
As many as 26 persons drowned, seven died of snakebites, six due to lightning strikes, five in wall collapses, four were electrocuted, and two died in boat capsizes, the official said.
As the water level had receded in most places, the number of relief camps has now been brought down to 151, he added.
In all, 27 lakh persons were affected in 105 blocks of 14 districts of West Bengal after a monsoon downpour and release of water from the Damodar Valley Corporation dams, he said.
