Swimmer Chupkov breaks own World Championships recordBudapest, July 29 (IANS) Russian Anton Chupkov broke his own FINA World Championships record in the men's 200 metres breaststroke on his way to winning the title here.

A late acceleration from the 20-year-old Chupkov was enough to break the Japanese domination over the first 150 meters of the race, as he clocked 2:06.96 on Friday, reports Efe.

Chupkov, won came in third at the Rio 2016 Olympics, broke the record he set in the semi-finals, when he registered 2:07.14.

 

Japanese Yasuhiro Koseki and Ippei Watanabe, who did not make the most of their strong start, had to settle with second and third places respectively.

Koseki clocked 2:07.29, ahead of his compatriot Watanabe (2:07.47), the world record holder since January, when he registered 2:06.67.
