The arrest was made following a complaint by the victim who alleged that two friends of her boyfriend, Harpreet Singh alias Happy, raped her last week, a police official said on Tuesday.
Police said Happy got the crime committed so that he could use the rape as an excuse to avoid keeping his promise to marry the victim.
The victim is 19 years old. She is a classmate of Happy.
The police have booked Happy and his two friends Bindu and Ravi on charges of gangrape, criminal conspiracy and cheating. All three men belong to Talwan village in Jalandhar district.
The victim told the police that Happy had promised to marry her after they had an affair. He called her to meet him on July 20 on the pretext of introducing her to his parents. However, he left her at some place and sent his friends to fetch her.
The friends allegedly took her to a tubewell room in a field and raped her. They again took her to an old house and raped her again, the victim told the police.
