Libyan Coast Guard save 150 migrantsTripoli, July 24 (IANS/AKI) Libyan Coast Guard said on Monday they had rescued 150 migrants off Sabratha, west of Tripoli, Libyan media reports said.

The migrants were taken to a base in Tripoli, news site Alwasat said, quoting Libyan Navy spokesman Ayoub Qassim.

A total of 11,122 migrants were picked up in Libyan waters this year till July 19 according to figures issued on Friday by the International Organisation for Migration.

The figure was slightly lower than the 11,233 people rescued off Libya over the same period of 2016.

Over 2,000 people have perished this year on the treacherous central Mediterranean route between Libya and Italy, considered the world's most dangerous route for sea migrants.
