Anaheim (California), Jul 15 (PTI) Veteran actress Whoopi Goldberg was announced as a surprise Disney legend at the prestigious award ceremony at D23 expo here.
Goldberg, who belongs to the elite group of artistes who are called EGOT, recipients of an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award, added another feather to her cap and that is Disney Legend, making her the one and only LEGOT recipient.
Hosted by the Chairman and CEO of the Walt Disney company, Bob Iger, the event honoured 10 stars who have contributed to the legacy of Disney.
Oprah Winfrey, Carrie Fisher, Garry Marshall, Julie Taymour, Mark Hamill, Stan Lee, Wayne Jackson, Clyde "Gerry" Geronimi and Manual Gonzales were the other honourees.
"Disney and I go way back, since I was a little kid, I mean way back. So it's beyond an honour and a joy to become a Disney Legend because everybody knows I love Disney, Disneyland, Disney World, Disney movies, Disney toys and the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique! What's better than this for a Disney-phile? Absolutely NOTHING," said Goldberg.
The 61-year-old actress-comedienne voiced Shenzi the hyena in Disney's blockbuster "The Lion King".
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the Disney Legends Awards.
