Orbelin Pineda added a goal in the 55th minute to make it 3-1 and seal the win for Mexico.
Mexico's next opponent in Group C will be Jamaica, the team it beat for the title in 2015, at Sports Authority Field in Denver on July 13.
El Salvador will play Cura?ao, which was beaten by Jamaica 2-0 on Sunday at Qualcomm Stadium.
