Scheme launched to raise awareness on Intellectual PropertyNew Delhi, July 7 (IANS) In a move designed to inspire Indian artists and young inventors towards protecting their creations and inventions, the government has launched a scheme for raising awareness on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), an official statement said on Friday.

"Taking forward the National Intellectual Property Rights Policy 2016, a Scheme for IPR Awareness - Creative India; Innovative India - has been launched by the Cell for IPR Promotion and Management (CIPAM)," said a Commerce Ministry statement.

"The scheme aims at raising IPR awareness amongst students, youth, authors, artists, budding inventors and professionals to inspire them to create, innovate and protect their creations and inventions across India including Tier 1, Tier 2, Tier 3 cities as well as rural areas in the next 3 years," it said.

The Ministry also said the scheme aims to conduct over 4,000 IPR awareness workshops and seminars in schools, colleges and industry, including small and medium units and start-ups, as well as IP training and sensitisation programmes for enforcement agencies and the judiciary.

"Workshops will cover all vital IP topics including international filing procedures, promotion of Geographical Indications and highlighting the ill-effects of piracy and counterfeiting," the statement added.
