Three-time world champion Hamilton recorded his best lap at one minute, 05.975 seconds at the Red Bull Ring circuit -- 0.190 seconds faster than 19-year-old Dutch Max Verstappen (Red Bull), reports Efe.
Hamilton's teammate Valtteri Bottas came third in the time sheet, 0.370 seconds adrift from the British driver, who won the 2016 race.
The 2017 Driver Standings leader, German Sebastian Vettel (Ferrari) was fourth, 0.449 seconds off the pace, ahead of Red Bull's Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo.
