Damascus, July 2 (IANS) At least 12 people were killed and 15 others wounded in three car bombings in the Syrian capital on Sunday, a British-based war monitor reported.
The attack took place near Tahrir Square in the Old Town of Damascus as police were chasing the three car bombs, the official Sana news agency reported.
The police were able to intercept two of the car bombs on the airport road near the entrance of Damascus and detonated them in controlled explosions, Efe news reported.
The third car escaped and went off at the Tahrir Square.
Another report said the terrorists had aimed to detonate the cars in the capital's crowded areas as people were back to work after a week-long holiday of Eid ul-Fitr.
