New Delhi, June 8 (IANS) A wanted interstate gangster, allegedly involved in a number of killings and car thefts, has been arrested from north Delhi area, police said on Thursday.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Bhisham Singh said 25-year-old Rohit, a local resident, was arrested from Samaypur Badli area earlier in the week.
Singh said that one country-made pistol and two live cartridges were seized from Rohit's possession.
Rohit is accused in a number of cases of killings in gangwars and committing car thefts in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana.
Police laid a trap to catch Rohit on June 4, after receiving a tip-off that he would come near Hanuman Mandir area in Badli, and he was arrested after a brief scuffle.
Rohit, a resident of Najafgarh area of Delhi, had studied up to Class XII and had been involved in criminal activities since Class XI.
First he was a member of "Neetu Dabodhia" gang but switched loyalties to "Ashok Pradhan" gang, police said.
Rahul had killed a rival gangster in police custody in Jhajjar court complex and another rival at a "Ragini Competition" (music contest) in Barahi of Haryana.
He was also involved in a murderous attempt on Secretary of a jewellers' association in Agra, who was under police protection.
Police of Delhi and Haryana had been hunting fir Rohit for the last three years in different states of India.
Police said that efforts were being made now to nab absconding gang leader Ashok Pradhan.
