New Delhi, June 8 (IANS) To prevent water-logging on Delhi roads during the monsoon, Lt Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday directed the PWD Principal Secretary to ensure proper cleaning of all drains falling under the department and develop a feedback mechanism.
The Lt. Governor also instructed the Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and civic bodies to explore the possibility of creating rain water harvesting system on the roadsides where water accumulates in large quantity, as a long-term solution for this problem.
Baijal issued these instruction in a review meeting on de-silting of drains ahead of the monsoon.
Delhi PWD Minister Satyendar Jain along with officials from the Delhi government, traffic police and local bodies were present in the meeting.
Baijal also directed officials of PWD, DJB and civic bodies that there should be adequate number of functional water-pump sets installed at vulnerable locations along with operating staff.
He directed the traffic police officials to increase their deployment and ensure functional water pumps at 370 areas identified as prone to water-logging.
In the meeting, Baijal instructed that all Revenue Officers of Delhi government shall inspect the status of de-silting and the availability of pumps in working condition.
