Third London attacker identified as Italian-Moroccan

London, June 6 (IANS) The third assailant who allegedly took part in the London terror attack that left seven dead was on Tuesday identified by London Metropolitan Police as Youssef Zaghba, a 22-year-old Italian-Moroccan.

According to a Met police statement, Zaghba had not been a subject of police or MI5 interest.

"All three London Bridge Borough Market attackers now named by police. Please contact us with any info about these men," police posted on Twitter alongside images of all three alleged assailants.

Zaghba was first identified earlier on Tuesday by Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera, which claimed that Italian intelligence services had informed British and Moroccan authorities that they believed him to be dangerous.

He had been arrested by Italian authorities in Bologna in March 2016 while trying to travel to Turkey in order to enter Syria.

The charges of international terrorism that were pressed against Zaghrab after his arrest were eventually dropped though Italy included him in the list of people considered potentially dangerous to state security.

According to the newspaper, he had recently found a part-time job at a restaurant in London.

On Saturday, Zaghrab, alongside Khuram Shazad Butt - who is of Pakistani origin -- and Rachid Redouane, drove a van through crowds on London Bridge before entering Borough Market and attacking people with knives.

The attack left seven people dead and dozens injured, of which 18 remain in critical condition. All three attackers were shot dead by police.

Met police also said on Tuesday they had made a fresh arrest in the East London neighbourhood of Barking.

The 27-year-old man is the only suspect currently in custody. All 12 previously detained have since been released without charge.
