Kolkata, June 6 (IANS) A person was arrested in West Bengal's Hooghly district on Tuesday with a car full of fake medicines, police said.
"Debaprasad Roy, 31, has been arrested in the early hours of Tuesday from Hooghly's T.N. Mukherjee road for transporting fake medical syrup in a car. A large amount of fake medicine has been seized from his vehicle," said an officer from Dankuni police station.
Police suspect Roy is a part of a gang that manufactures fake medicine and transports it to various part of the state.
"Apart from the fake syrup bottles, we have seized multiple jars of liquid syrup and labels of renowned pharmaceutical companies from the car," the officer said.
"The accused has been remanded to six days in police custody. We will interrogate him about the other members involved in the crime," he added.
