Turin (Italy), May 30 (IANS/AKI) A newborn baby found on a street on the northwest Italian city of Turin's outskirts died in hospital on Tuesday, 30 minutes after he was rushed there by ambulance.
Doctors at Turin's Regina Margherita hospital tried unsuccessfully to revive the baby boy, who still had his umbilical cord attached.
He was discovered wrapped in a towel by a local street sweeper in Turin's northeast suburb of Settimo Torinese, who called emergency services.
Police were checking local hospitals for women who recently gave birth and were viewing security camera footage to try and identify who abandoned the newborn, Turin-based daily La Stampa said on its website.
The newborn had pale skin, La Stampa reported.
