New Delhi, May 23 (IANS) A 37-year-old woman, who hatched a plot with her occultist paramour to eliminate her husband, has been arrested, police said on Tuesday.
Police also recovered a cloth allegedly used by Aruna to strangle her husband Nathuni Prasad last month.
Aruna, along with the occultist, Sanjeev Paswan, had hatched a plan to kill Prasad in March, and Paswan gave her sleeping pills, police said.
"She broke down during questioning and accepted the crime but the occultist is absconding," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Ishwar Singh.
During the investigation, police discovered Aruna's mobile phone number, which she had not disclosed earlier, and call details revealed she was in contact with Paswan, who hails from Bihar's Muzaffarpur.
On Paswan's instructions, she mixed sleeping pills in Prasad's dinner on April 6 and later throttled him to death, police said.
On April 7, the body of 54-year-old Prasad was brought to All India Institute of Medical Sciences by his son and it was said that he died while sleeping, police said.
"The deceased's wife appeared to be in shock and was unable to explain what happened. Police did not suspect any foul play in the beginning of the inquiry," Singh said.
However, the autopsy report found suffocation as the reason of death and subsequently, police registered an FIR.
