Chandigarh, May 19 (IANS) As a tribute to Union Environment Minister Anil Madhav Dave, who passed away on Thursday, Governor V.P. Singh Badnore on Friday planted saplings in the premises of Punjab Raj Bhavan.
Recalling his association with Dave, Badnore said he was an esteemed colleague and an exceptional Member of Parliament dedicated to the cause of environment and sustainable development.
"A great environmentalist he was, even in his death, Shri Dave has left an obvious message to save environment through his will," Badnore said, adding that he wanted to execute Dave's last wish in letter and spirit by planting samplings in the premises of Punjab Raj Bhavan as a mark of regard and admiration.
"Instrumental in bringing about a massive transformation in River Water Environment Conservation, Dave urged those living near the Narmada to opt for chemical-free farming. He also initiated radical steps necessary to stop the use of chemical fertilisers in agriculture as it was causing irreparable damage to vital organs," Badnore pointed out.
The Governor said that officers in Chandigarh have been directed to initiate a plantation drive dedicated to Dave.
