Three Indian health scribes win Australian fellowship

Three Indian health scribes win Australian fellowshipNew Delhi, May 5 (IANS) Three Indian journalists have been chosen for the International Health Media Fellowship by the Australian High Commission, in collaboration with an Indian start-up on data research and storytelling.

The fellowship will provide the journalists an opportunity to examine public health programmes in Australia with a focus on digital health, medical technology and health systems.

Australian High Commissioner Harinder Sidhu congratulated the journalists and said the fellowship was "the first cooperation activity" that "will contribute to developing closer links in the deepening bilateral health relationship".

"Australia and India have strong bilateral ties in health policy and research. The relationship was further strengthened by the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding on health and medicine, during the (India) visit of Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull," Sidhu said, according to a statement.

The MoU covers cooperation in topics such as digital health, mental health, anti-microbial resistance and health security, as well as in communicable and non-communicable diseases.

The three Indian journalists selected are Dinesh C. Sharma, Managing Editor India Science Wire, Vidya Krishnan, Health Editor of The Hindu and Nabeela Khan, Deputy Editor at Health Analytics India.

Syed Nazakat, founder and Editor-In-Chief of the startup DataLEADS, thanked the High Commission for initiating the fellowship.

"Health is often a neglected subject in newsrooms. The fellowship will provide the three journalists an excellent chance to examine public health programmes in Australia more deeply."
