Five held for selling fake marks cards in BengaluruBengaluru, May 5 (IANS) Five persons, including a woman, were arrested here for allegedly selling fake marks cards and degree certificates of 38 universities across the country, police said on Friday.

"They sold each fake marks card for Rs 1 lakh and each provisional degree certificate for Rs 50,000 to gullible students," Deputy Commissioner of Police H.D. Anand Kumar told reporters here.

The accused, in 30-40 years age group, are Kunal Kumar Mondal, Deepankar Sen and Aruna from Bengaluru; Saurav Kumar Sharma from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh and Sandesh Agarwal from New Delhi.

"We have seized 732 marks cards and degree certificates of various boards and universities and equipment used for printing them," said Kumar.

A FIR has been registered against the accused under sections 420, 465 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code on a complaint from one of their victims.

"Their modus operandi was to send e-mails to gullible students from 'Join Us For Education' office at Manipal Centre in the city and lure them into buying the fake marks card and degree certificates," Kumar said.

Mondal, who hails from Katihar district in Bihar and lives in Bengaluru, was the first to be arrested on the charge of selling a fake marks card to Satvik, a failed pre-university student who wanted to join an engineering college.

"On Mondal's confession, a CCB team arrested Agarwal from Delhi and Sharma from Ghaziabad. Another accused, Kaushal, is still at large," added Kumar.
