L. Subramaniam enthralls in Indo-Egyptian concert

Cairo, April 20 (IANS) A joint recital by Indias foremost violinist Dr. L. Subramaniam and Egyptian harpist Dr. Amira Hamed in a 'Concert for Peace' as part of the 'India by the Nile' cultural fest left the audience here captivated.

The concert was held on Wednesday in the Main Hall of the Cairo Opera House as part of the fifth edition of 'India by the Nile' cultural festival which runs until April 27.

The concert was divided in two parts where Subramaniam presented some of his harmonious music. In the second part, Egyptian harpist Hamed joined him to play three pieces on the harp.

One of the pieces was entitled "Journey", to mark 70 years of India's independence which also marks 70 years of relations between India and Egypt.

Subramaniam, who is renowned for his virtuoso playing techniques and compositions in orchestral fusion, will play on Thursday too at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, Alexandria, a statement from the Indian embassy in Cairo said.

"It is the first time to play in Cairo but it is the second time for me in Egypt. I performed when the Alexandria library opened (2002)," said Subramaniam. He said that he would like to walk along the Nile again as it gives him inspiration to write new music.
