Kolkata, April 16 (IANS) Two persons on a bike lost their lives after being hit by a speeding truck in West Bengal's Nadia district, police said on Sunday.
According to police, none of the riders had their helmets on during the accident which made their injuries fatal.
"Apurba Haldar, who was riding the bike with pillion rider Suraj Sonkar, was hit by a speeding pick-up truck while crossing the road near Kalyani Buddha Park region in Nadia district at around 1.30 a.m.," said an officer from Kalyani police station.
"The two accident victims were taken to the JNM Hospital in Kalyani where they were declared dead," he said.
Police have detained the pick up truck. The driver of the truck also got injured in the accident and is admitted to the same hospital.
"He would be interrogated about how the accident happened once he recovers. A case of reckless driving has been filed," the officer added.
