People identify with a political story, says 'An Insignificant Man' maker

Mumbai, April 15 (IANS) Khushoo Ranka, one of the directors of political documentary "An Insignificant Man" based on the rise of anti-corruption protests in India headed by Arvind Kejriwal and formation of his Aam Admi Party, says it is very interesting to observe how the global audience identifies with the story.

With the film winning the Audience Choice Awards (Documentary) at the Indian Film Festival of Los Angeles (IFFLA), Ranka, sharing her excitement, said in a statement: "It's been an incredible journey so far with this film and we have had housefull screenings in countries like Mexico and Spain. It's surprising how much people identify with a political story that took place in New Delhi. We are playing across 5 countries in April alone."

The film, directed by Ranka and Vinay Shukla and produced by Anand Gandhi (of "Ship of Theseus" fame) received appreciation in various international film festivals after it premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival.

This is one of largest crowd-funded documentary with its crowd-funding campaign receiving unprecedented support. As per as information on the film's official website, while the filmmakers had an initial goal of $20,000, they went on to receive a staggering $120,000, nearly 600 per cent over their target.

The film is expected to release in Indian theatres soon.
