BSF seizes 951 grams of gold, one arrestedKolkata, April 14 (IANS) The BSF seized 951 grams of gold, worth more than Rs 29 lakh, and apprehended one smuggler from West Bengal's Nadia district, an official said on Friday.

Acting on a tip-off on gold smuggling, the BSF troopers of Banpur outpost on Thursday carried out a special patrol at Nadia district's Majdia railway station and apprehended a woman named Pushpa Biswas with 951 grams of gold.

"The BSF apprehended Biswas from Majdia railway station on Thursday afternoon and seized five gold bars, one gold chain, one gold chip and 48 chunks of melted gold worth Rs 29,28,890 from her," R.P.S. Jaswal of BSF's South Bengal frontier said in a statement.

 

"The accused has been handed over to the customs authorities at Nadia district's Banpur along with the seized gold, for further legal action," he added.

The BSF's South Bengal frontier has seized 5.195 kg of gold (including this seizure) worth Rs 1.57 crore and apprehended two gold smugglers so far in 2017, the statement said.
