Over 1,000 BharatBenz trucks on Indian roads BS-IV compliant: Daimler
Chennai, March 29 (IANS) The Indian subsidiary of German auto major Daimler AG on Wednesday said more than 1,000 Bharat Stage-IV (BS-IV) compliant trucks are on Indian roads ahead of the April 1, 2017 deadline.

In a statement here, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles said that in the countdown to the nationwide introduction of the new BS-IV emissions standards on April 1, 2017, BharatBenz is leading the transition with more than 1,000 BS-IV trucks on Indian roads already.

"One thousand BharatBenz BS-IV trucks on the road underline our commitment to lead this much-needed upgrade to cleaner and more efficient vehicles. We have worked relentlessly for more than a year to be fully BS-IV ready on 1st April," Erich Nesselhauf, Managing Director and CEO, Daimler India Commercial Vehicles, was quoted as saying in the statement.

According to the company, its entire BharatBenz product range of trucks above 9 tonnes up to 49 tonnes has been available as BS-IV variants since August 2015.

On Wednesday, the apex court banned the sale of non-BS-IV emission norm compliant vehicles in the country after April 1, 2017.

"Today's (Wednesday) decision of the Supreme Court reassures us in our belief that industry interests must go together with the interests of the society at large. The BS-IV standard will bring much needed improvements in terms of air quality, to the benefit of the people and the environment," Nesselhauf said.

"We are now counting down for next week's launch of our all-new range of BharatBenz trucks, featuring our clean and fuel-efficient BS-IV technology package. We could not have chosen a better timing to introduce these fresh new products," he added.
