Gurugram, March 25 (IANS) SABIC's annual blood donation drive across India collected 1,800 units of blood in camps, a company spokesperson said on Saturday.

This year, the initiative brought people together in four cities -- Bengaluru, Delhi-Gurugram, Chennai and Vadodara -- to address the issue of blood shortage in the country's blood banks.

In Gurugram, the final camp was held at Ambience Mall on Delhi-Gurugram expressway on Saturday, where the SABIC senior management team and BloodConnect volunteers gathered to raise awareness of need for more blood donors.

SABIC, in collaboration with local NGO partners, set up blood donation camps near its offices across the four cities to encourage its employees and those from neighbouring companies, as well as residents in the vicinity to donate blood and save lives.

"This is the fourth consecutive year wherein SABIC has organised this meaningful initiative. We look forward to continue our efforts and hold more such drives in the coming years," remarked Janardhanan Ramanujalu, Vice President, SABIC South Asia.

The 2017 blood donation camps include month-long blood donation drives in Delhi-Gurugram and Bengaluru in collaboration with BloodConnect and Lion's Club of Surjapura as well as one-day camps held at SABIC's site offices in Vadodara, Chennai and Bengaluru.

Mukul Agarwal, President, BloodConnect Foundation, said: "We are pleased with the response. This campaign helped to alleviate blood shortage problems in the region. Our longer-term aim is to encourage more voluntary blood donors to support this case on a regular basis."
