India, Uzbekistan review bilateral issues
New Delhi, March 23 (IANS) India and Uzbekistan on Thursday reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral issues during the 13th round of foreign office consultations between the two sides here

While Preeti Saran, Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs, led the Indian side in the discussions,the Uzbek side was led by Dilyor Khakimov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs (West).

"During the meeting, the two sides discussed entire gamut of issues including high-level political exchanges, defence cooperation, trade and commercial ties, development cooperation, connectivity, cultural and consular matters as well as plans to celebrate the 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Uzbekistan," the External Affairs Ministry said in a statement.

 

"Both sides also exchanged views on issues of regional and global importance while acknowledging the commonality of positions on matters of reform of international institutions and cooperation in regional groups like the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organisation)," it stated.

India established formal diplomatic relations with Uzbekistan in 1992 after the country attained independence in the wake of the disintegration of the erstwhile USSR.

Earlier on Thursday, Khakimov also called on Minister of State for External Affairs M.J. Akbar.
