India, Afghanistan discuss security situation
New Delhi, March 16 (IANS) Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Karzai on Thursday called on Minister of State for External Affairs M.J. Akbar and discussed the security situation in his country, official sources said.

Karzai also met Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar and Secretary (Economic Relations) Amar Sinha.

"Both sides exchanged views on the situation in Afghanistan and reviewed the progress of developmental projects and decisions taken during the visits of President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadza to India last year," External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Gopal Baglay said.

Karzai apprised India on the current security situation and efforts being made by Afghanistan to bring about peace and reconciliation in the country.

"The Indian side reiterated its commitment to continue support to the government and people of Afghanistan in their efforts to build a peaceful, stable, prosperous and united country within which the democratic and pluralistic aspirations of their people are met," Baglay added.

Karzai is visiting India to attend an international counter-terrorism conference.

During Ghani's India visit in September, India agreed to allocate $1 billion to Afghanistan and proposed to supply world-class and easily-affordable medicines from India.
