New Delhi, March 2 (IANS) Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Thursday said he believed in the freedom of expression within the legal ambit.
"I believe in the freedom of expression with whatever legal restrictions are there. All freedom of expression have legal limit," he said when asked for his opinion on Delhi University student Gurmehar Kaur.
"You cannot barge on another person's right," Parrikar said on the sidelines of a programme here.
The minister, however, said he was not commenting on any particular incident.
Later, Defence Ministry officials also clarified that the minister's comments "were not in context of any particular issue".
Army chief General Bipin Rawat, meanwhile, refused to comment on the issue.
A Lady Shri Ram College student, Kaur came under attack after she launched a campaign on social media against the RSS's students wing, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP).
Daughter of a slain Army officer, Kaur was also attacked over a video where she said it was not Pakistan but war that killed her father.
She left Delhi on Monday after being threatened with rape and death for launching a social media campaign.
