J&K police rescues 80 people from avalanche-prone south Kashmir area
Srinagar, Jan 18 (IANS) The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday rescued 80 persons from an avalanche-prone area in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.

"The Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a rescue operation in Waltengoo Nad area of Kulgam district today and rescued 80 persons including 33 children," the police said in Srinagar on Wednesday evening.

"In view of the heavy snowfall and apprehension of snow avalanche in Waltengoo Nad area, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kulgam constituted rescue teams," the police added.

 

"Under the supervision of a Sub-Divisional police officer and SHO Qazigund the teams rushed to the spot. After clearing snow on nearly 15 Kilometres of road the teams reached Waltengoo Nad, the police said.

During the rescue operation more than 80 persons including 33 children were rescued.

They were taken to a government Middle School building and arrangements like meals, bedding and heating were made for them by the district administration.

"Two children among those rescued were suffering from hepatitis and they have been shifted to hospital for treatment," the police said.
